The Son of Neptune

 

 The second book of The Heroes of Olympus is better than the first book. Maybe I'm a little biased, because I (like many other readers, I believe)am a fan of Percy Jackson series. So you can imagine how thrilled I was when I finally met Percy again in this book.

The story begins with Percy (who lost his memories) ran from 2 sisters of Medusa who wanted to kill him. He met Juno (Greek:Hera), and didn't realize that she was a Goddess. In short, Percy had to carry Juno in his back all the way to Camp Jupiter, where he met his new amazing friends, Hazel (Daughter of Pluto; Greek: Hades) and Frank Zhang (Son of Mars; Greek: Ares). In order to prove himself, and to regain his memories, Percy went to a Quest to free the Death (Thanatos) from the a Giant (Son of Gaea, Mother Earth) with Hazel and Frank. Well, you can guess that so many things happened during the Quest, including a meeting with Irish, battle with 2 giants, and a big battle in Camp Jupiter which Percy and his friend came (too on time) to the rescue and got all the Glory.

The positive addition of this book is that we can see a different side of Mars/Ares, the God of War. In Percy Jackson series, Ares was pictured to be an arogant brat (sorry), bigheaded God. But In this book, while he took the shape of Mars, he showed compassion, towards his son Frank, towards Frank's grandmother, and Frank's mother (eventhough she's dead, but he talked about her with pride and love). Even Percy added his own comment at the end of the book about "Maybe Ares and Mars are different".

Well, it's no fun to just read my review.

Amazing story. Ryo and Ayaori are both sooo handsome....I fell in love in an instant ^_^

The Hunger Game

I think the story of this book is very original. Perhaps there are many concept of 'last-man-standing' games, but this book gives us the point of view of a teenage girl that has to face a choice of kill or to be killed in a game full of cameras, live for a cruel festival for people of Capitol and Panem. In the middle of her own fear of just being in the game, another contestant from the same District revealed his undenying love to her. What should she do to him when the rules only allows one person to live? What will she choose, love or life?

The story starts with a girl named Katniss Everdeen who lived in District 12 of Panem hunted some animals with her bestfriend Gale in the wood just outside the district. Unfortunately, they had to come back for the day of the Reaping (it is the day when the Capitol choose 2 teenagers from each district to become tributes). Katniss nightmare came when the name appeared for the tribute was her litle sister's, Primrose.  In a haste decision to protect her sister, Katniss volunteered as a tribute, which is the first time happened in district 12 and earned respect from the people. Together with Peeta Mellark, the other tribute, they were sent to Capitol to train with their mentor Haymitch, before they had to battle each other to death among other tributes from other district.

I can't wait to read the next book ^_^
